We find ’em the old-fashioned way: walking into local shops searching for stuff that’s quintessentially Red Bank or just plain unique and fun to give or get. We’ll be popping in here again and again in the weeks leading up to Christmas to show you our finds. Here’s our first one:

 

What: Calico, ie, “The Evil Clown of Middletown” gear: t-shirts, hoodies, pint and shot glasses, beanies, etc.

Where: Circus Wine Beer & Spirits 56 Newman Springs Road

Why? Widely known as the “Evil Clown of Middletown” the giant Calico sign on Route 35 North in Middletown has been a beloved roadside landmark for generations. Calico is also the mascot of local Super Foodtown and Circus Liquors, owned by the same company. Wearing this gear on the boardwalk would give Weird NJ aficionados some true Monmouth County cred.

How much? Prices range from $41.99 for a zip-up hoodie to $4.99 for a shot glass. (See prices in the photo above.)
