Here’s the answer to last week’s “Where.”
Last week’s photo was a close-up of the wheel on the old artillery piece in Veteran’s Park, the triangle of land at Riverside Avenue/Route 35 and West Front Street. We often try, and in this case, planned, to do some research and get the story behind the old cannon. But Wheresters wrote in with so much info and anecdotes that there was really no need. William Fraser wrote:
“Veterans Park, Rt. 35 at Front St., dedicated on Memorial Day, 1965. Not sure if this cannon is a German Krupp, but there was a plumbing supply store on the corner of Front and Pearl and the guy behind the counter called this the “Krummy Krupp”. I cannot remember his name but he was a real character and loved puns as I recall.”
Chuck Stern unearthed this New York Times story about the creation of the park in 1961.
Thanks to those who wrote in.
