Five Red Bank venues will throw their doors open with special events and extended hours this weekend as part of Garden State Art Weekend, described by organizers as “a statewide celebration of art in New Jersey.”
It should be perfect weather for strolling from venue to venue. Here’s a list, with info and blurbs provided by the venues through press releases or their web sites.
Galerie Lucida 18 Wallace Street
Galerie Lucida invites you to celebrate the opening of Garden State Art Weekend, an annual statewide celebration of the arts, on Friday, April 17, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Our first event after a long winter hiatus features an eclectic exhibition of work by gallery artists, Wynn Gay, Scott Harbison, Eleanor James, Justin DeMattico, and Michael Paris Mazzeo, as well as open studio visits with our artists-in-residence.
On Saturday and Sunday, we will be open from 1 PM to 5 PM, with open studios, including a tintype demonstration and portrait sessions with Michael.
Oyster Point Hotel, 146 Bodman Place
Cynthia Pareja Dubin’s 38 original mixed media paintings breathe color and light into the scenic Oyster Point Hotel second-floor hall, bar, restaurant, and lobby overlooking the dock and water. Celebrating their 6th year of the AIR artists in residence program curated by Ellen Martin, this exhibit is open during the same hours as the hotel and free to attend.
Part of the Garden State Art Week, the show offers the unique opportunity to transport yourself to the imagined universe of Pareja Dubin’s carefully crafted abstract collages, while enjoying the award-winning hospitality Oyster Point has to offer.
Cynthia Pareja Dubin, born in Lima, Perú, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the complex connection between identity, memory, and the subconscious. She holds a BA in Graphic Design from the Universidad de Palermo in Argentina.
Based in West Orange, New Jersey, Cynthia Pareja Dubin’s dedication extends beyond artistic creation; she is also a passionate educator, currently sharing her knowledge and expertise by teaching “Introduction to Abstract Art” for adults at the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey (VACNJ) in Summit, South Avenue Arts in Garwood and “Acrylic Painting” at The Baird Center in South Orange.
ArtSpace, Monmouth Arts, 99 Monmouth Street
Huff has practiced street photography for decades. The images presented in Street Life are recent works, all rendered in black and white, focusing on the flow of light and shadow, the presence—or absence—of eye contact between photographer and subject, and the emotional texture of life as it unfolds in public spaces. This is life in motion: real, raw, unpredictable, messy, and fleeting. Each photograph is a sliver of time, captured forever, a quiet record that the photographer and subject existed together for a fraction of a second.”
