UPDATE: A JCP&L spokesman said power had been restored by late afternoon Wednesday.
A tree-cutter’s bucket truck hit a power line on River Street Wednesday, knocking out power to just under 1,000 homes and businesses on Red Bank’s west side.
The Borough of Red Bank sent out an emergency alert at 11:11 am saying Jersey Central Power & Light was reporting an outage in part of town. A Red Bank Fire Department social media post said a bucket truck manned a crew cutting trees had hit a power line.
An outage map on the web site of First Energy, JCP&L’s parent company, showed 983 customers out of power as of 1 pm.
The map indicated power was expected to be restored by 2 pm
Along River Street between Shrewsbury Avenue and Bridge Avenue, crews were on the scene where a contractor appeared to have been cutting back the large sycamores lining the street. Multiple large limbs were on the ground along with at least one downed wire stretching down to the ground.
Borough Manager Jim Gant said the work was being done by the power company.
