RED BANK: ALL’S FAIR AT SPRING EVENT

streetfair-79152-500x332-4538824The spring edition of the Red Bank Street Fair returns this Sunday, when the downtown is transformed into a merry midway for the benefit of the PBA Local 39. (Photo by Peter Lindner. Click to enlarge)

[CORRECTION: The original version of this post reported that the spring Street Fair benefits the volunteer fire department, when in fact it’s for the Police Benevolent Association. The fire department fair is held in the fall. redbankgreen regrets the error.]

It’s a strolling/rolling smorgasbord of eat-on-the-go “fair fare,” a merry midway of rides, games and activities for the kiddies, and a bustling bazaar of retailers, crafters and service merchants. Even if the majority of vendors aren’t local, proceeds go to the worthiest of hyper-local causes: the charitable works of Red Bank Police Benevolent Association Local 39.

Back for another springtime edition this Sunday, the Red Bank Street Fair also serves as an early harbinger of that warm-weather season of Riverfests and Sidewalk Sales and music/movies in the park.

Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., the northernmost blocks of Broad Street (between Peters Place and Front Street) will be closed to vehicular traffic, as will the easternmost portion of Monmouth Street (between Broad Street and Maple Avenue), while the downtown hub is commandeered by an event that promises “plenty of fun for everyone.”

The weather forecast sees sunny skies and temperatures peaking in the low 60s — so take the opportunity to hit the streets of the downtown district while the traffic is routed elsewhere; support the borough’s bravest, and feel free to stop in at your favorite neighborhood merchant of choice. The season for outdoor events gathers momentum later this month, with the reappearance of the Red Bank International Beer Wine and Food Fest on Sunday, April 30.
