THE redbankgreen PODCAST: STORMIN’ NORMAN SELDIN

By BRIAN DONOHUE

It’s time (yes, finally) for another episode of the redbankgreen podcast. This time, we’re sitting down for an amazing conversation with “Stormin'” Norman Seldin, 77-year-old longtime musician, producer, songwriter, arranger, promoter, manager, music director and record label owner. His stories are Red Bank gold and his life encapsulates so many themes of life in and around Red Bank over the last seven decades. There’s tales of old Red Bank, the Asbury Park 1960’s music scene, racist nightclub owners, mobbed up Jersey shore bars and decades of sweet, sweet music. Give a listen and you won’t be disappointed.

The podcast can also be heard on Spotify (see player below) and Apple Podcasts. You can also subscribe on those apps to get future episodes of the podcast.

And, don’t miss Seldin performing as part of a piano duo at 1 pm Saturday at 77 McClaren Street as part of Red Bank Porchfest.

For a full rundown of the 90-plus acts, map and description of the event, check out our previous coverage of porchfest here.

For good measure, and in case you’re considering not listening to the interview, here’s a photo of Seldin (center at keyboards) with his band Joyful Noyze in 1972, including a certain saxophone player hired away by Bruce Springsteen.

Photo from the book “You Don’t Know Me” by Norman Seldin, as told to Charlie Horner
