About 100 people attended a Saturday vigil at Johnny Jazz Park in Red Bank as part of a nationwide series of events to mourn the lives of people who have died in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention or during ICE enforcement operations since 2025.
The event was organized by Immigrant rights groups including American Friends Service Committee, Cosecha, and El Pueblo Unido.
AFSC immigrants’ rights coordinator Itzel Hernandez read the names of 68 immigrants and US citizens who had died amid the federal immigration crackdown.
“it is our duty to be out here,” Hernandez said. “It is our duty because this affects all of us.”
