RED BANK: LEAF PICKUP THIS WEEK

Leaves in street 112025(Photo by Brian Donohue. Click to enlarge.)

Go rake the leaves this weekend.

The weather’s going to be perfect for it (Sunny with high temps in the low 60’s both Saturday and Sunday) and the Borough of Red Bank begins leaf collection on Monday.

Here’s the notice sent out by the borough about the collection schedule and a handy map showing the pickup zones below it.

We’ve also included a 2024 borough flyer suggesting a more leisurely and eco-friendly approach, known as “leave the leaves.”

Even the “leave the leaves” approach involves some raking of the leaves, if only to push them into the flower beds.

Whenever I rake leaves, I think of the amazing song, “Day After Tomorrow” by Tom Waits, in which a soldier nearing the end of his overseas deployment says, “What I miss you won’t believe/ shovelling snow and raking leaves.” It makes me feel lucky to be doing it instead of having it feel like a chore.

So rake those leaves. Enjoy it and be glad you’re able to do it.

Also note, the soldier did not miss using a leaf blower.
