HALFACRE: NOBODY TOLD US

hanceriver-050510Detours will be in effect for most of this month at Hance and River roads in Fair Haven, borough officials say. (Click to enlarge)

Fair Haven Mayor Mike Halfacre is miffed again.

Two weeks after complaining that borough residents served by the Red Bank water utility had no advance notice of a rate increase, he says the borough was caught off guard with road construction work that Monmouth County started Tuesday “without any notice to the Borough of Fair Haven, and without our input.”

The work, it seems, will require sporadic detours at the busy intersection of River Road and Hance Road over most of the month, he says in a post on his blog.

Here’s his full post, dated yesterday:

An Unexpected River Road Event

The County of Monmouth began work this morning on the intersection of River Road and Hance Road. This work was begun without any notice to the Borough of Fair Haven, and without our input. Unfortunately, the lack of any notice has and will cause some disruptions. We are working with the County to make it as smooth as possible for our residents and businesses during the course of the work, which is anticipated to last about 5 weeks.

There will be a detour in effect (1st Street) and River Road will be re-opened on week-ends.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

And here are details on the closure schedule:

The Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering began a construction project at the intersection of River Road and Hance Road this morning which continue for the next 4 weeks as follows.  Closures of Hance Road are as follows:

Week #1-May 4th-7th, River Rd to First St will be closed
Week #2-May 10th-14th, River Rd to First St will be closed
Week #3-May 17th-21st, River Rd to Lewis Point Rd will be closed
Week #4-May 24th-28th, River Rd to Lewis Point Rd will be closed

River Road will remain open to traffic; however, lane closures with flagmen and alternating traffic shall be anticipated.

Construction will take place from 7am-3pm weekdays.

The Borough was not aware of the fact that the County was going to be completing this project and apologizes for the lack of prior notification.  The flyer attached was provided by the County and distributed to residents in the area affected on the south side of River Road. A notice to the residents on the north side of River Road will be provided in the next two weeks.

Thank you,
