CABINET CLEAN-OUT SLATED FOR SATURDAY

old-rxLet’s see… almost three years old? Yeah, time to go. (Click to enlarge)

By DUSTIN RACIOPPI

As you break out the feather duster and crack into the clutter in the attic for your spring cleaning routine, police are reminding residents not to forget about the medicine cabinet.

This weekend, local departments are participating in Operation Take Back, a national effort to collect unused and expired medications from households.

The annual undertaking, says Fair Haven Detective Jesse Dykstra, is to prevent, among other items, “pills from falling into the hands of juveniles or the illicit market,” he said, “or just to get rid of unwanted medication.”

It’s also a chance for police to properly dispose of the meds, rather than having them flushed down a toilet or tossed into the garbage.

Operation Take Back runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the following locations:

• Red Bank Police Department, 90 Monmouth Street

• Fair Haven Youth Center, 35 Fisk Street

• Middletown High School North, 63 Tindall Road, and Middletown High School South, 900 Nut Swamp Road

• Little Silver Police Department, 480 Prospect Avenue

• Shrewsbury Police Department, 419 Sycamore Avenue

• Sea Bright Police Department, 1099 Ocean Avenue

• Tinton Falls Police Department, 556 Tinton Avenue

Remember: Nothing makes a Red Bank friend happier than to hear "I saw you on Red Bank Green!"
