PREPARE TO KVETCH: SEVERE HEAT ALERT

100_1

Yeah, we did a double-take, too.

But the Associated Press, citing the National Weather Service, is reporting that a heat wave is about to roll in for the weekend and then stick around.

Forecasters say temperatures could reach near 100 degrees, fueled by a Bermuda high. The humidity will also increase.

The weather service says heat index values will easily make it into the upper 90s and possibly even reach 100 degrees or higher.

The first heat wave of the season is expected to last into the early part of next week.

Locally, though, it’s not looking that bad. Cooler by the shore and all that.

Still, redbankgreen is forecasting that we’ll all be pretty much sick of it by Tuesday at the latest.

Here’s the outlook for 07701:

This Afternoon: Partly sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph.

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8pm and 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. East wind between 3 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. South wind between 3 and 9 mph.

Friday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind between 3 and 8 mph.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Southwest wind between 5 and 14 mph.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 69.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 89.

Sunday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 70.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 91.

Monday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 87.

Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86.

“Officials” advise that we wear light-colored, loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water, the AP reports.
