Seems somebody may have been desperate for office supplies.
The Asbury Park Press has a story this afternoon about four out-of-staters arrested Sunday at the Staples store in Shrewsbury for trying to pass a stolen credit card number.
Apparently, the suspects decided to try that store after being rejected at another Staples just up Route 35 in Middletown.
The alleged perps were up to their three-ring binders in outstanding warrants. From the story:
When police arrived, Vic M. Washington and Marie S. Petty were inside the store, and Petty was trying to make a purchase using a stolen credit card number, said [Shrewsbury police Capt. Timothy] Spencer.
Sunjai A. Williams and Alfared1 A. Evans were in the vehicle, he said.
All four were arrested.
Petty, 29, of Long Island City, N.Y., and Washington, 37, of Queens, N.Y., were both charged with credit card fraud, conspiracy to commit credit card fraud, and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana. There was also a fugitive warrant for Petty’s arrest, issued in Manhattan in connection with a felony robbery charge.
Williams, 27, and Evans, 30, both of Hagerstown, Maryland, were each charged with conspiracy to commit credit card fraud and possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana.
There was also a fugitive warrant for Evans, issued in Maryland in connection with a parole violation related to a robbery charge.
Petty and Williams also both had outstanding municipal court warrants from Toms River, Edison and Eatontown.
Washington had an outstanding warrant from Edison municipal court.
Evans had outstanding municipal court warrants from Tinton Falls, Middletown and Irvington.
Patrolmen Frank Neary and James Ramsey, Sgt. Allan Morris, and Lt. Louis Ferraro, along with the U.S. Secret Service, handled the investigation.
