BOROUGH WEB UPGRADE TO DEBUT

Hot_topic_6

Red Bank Borough’s somewhat underutilized official website (we’re being diplomatic here) is about to make the great leap into the 21st century.

The Asbury Park Press reports that the site will go live with new features tomorrow.

Among the first items available, the story says, will be the draft budget unveiled Tuesday night and now being whipped into shape for formal introduction Monday night.

That means, we hope, that this is the last day on which we won’t be able to find the meetings of the council itself on the borough’s web calendar.

Also ready for its close-up, reports the Press’ Larry Higgs: the Board of Education website. It, too, will be ready tomorrow.

From the story:

“We’ll go live on Friday. It’s 80 percent done,” said Laura C. Morana, superintendent of schools. “We wanted to make it a parent-friendly Web site and accessible.”

Additions include calendars of activities for the middle and primary schools and throughout the district, links and resources for parents, a precollege guide for parents of middle school students, and board agendas and minutes, Morana said.

As to the borough site:

What’s coming next for the borough Web site seems to be a joint decision between the Finance Committee and Mayor Pasquale “Pat” Menna’s newly formed Education and Technology Committee.

In the short term, the draft borough budget, which is scheduled to be introduced by the Borough Council on Monday, will be posted on the site Friday, said Stanley Sickels, borough administrator.

More comprehensive upgrades to the Web site will be introduced in the next two to three months, said council President Sharon Lee, who heads the Education and Technology Committee. So far, the 2005 borough audit has been posted, she said.

If you’re looking for the 2005 audit, though, you’d better know that it’s under the heading for the finance department, because the site’s search engine doesn’t seem to know where it is. We just typed “audit” into the search box. The response? “No matches were found for ‘audit.'”
