IT’S RAINING BRANCHES AND WIRES

Icestorm1_1

Yeah, it’s a real mess out there. Dangerous, too.

Tree branches are falling under the weight of wet ice, often taking wires with them. We saw two downed wires in Rumson that the authorities hadn’t yet gotten to in the space of a few blocks at midmorning.

Nearly every street we traveled on a short spin through Red Bank, Fair Haven and Rumson had branches down.

Oh, and the roads are a mess with thick slush. Street parking means navigating flooded gutters.

It may get more treacherous tonight.

The Asbury Park Press is reporting:

Most of the state was under a flood watch for later today as the storm was predicted to finish up with a round of heavy rain. High winds and lows in the teens were forecast for Wednesday night, and power companies were mustering crews to deal with anticipated outages.

Here’s what the National Weather Service says about our area outlook:

Rain and sleet…Then a chance of snow this afternoon. Additional snow and sleet accumulation less than 1 inch. Blustery with highs in the mid 30s. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph…Becoming northwest this afternoon. A few gusts up to 40 mph. Chance of precipitation near 100 percent.
