RED BANK: SMASH-AND-GRAB AT JEWEL SHOP

Red Bank police are investigating a smash-and-grab burglary at a Broad Street jewelry store shortly before dawn Sunday.

Captain Darren McConnell tells redbankgreen that patrols responded to a 5 a.m. alarm at A.H. Fisher Diamonds, at the corner of White Street to find the front-door glass smashed and the store strewn with glass from broken display cases. The suspects had fled, he said.

Surveillance video from the store shows two masked, stocky figures, believed to be males, using a crowbar-like implement to break into the store and then conduct a smash-and-grab spree among the display cases, McConnell said.

Not all the cases were broken, and no attempt was made to open the store’s formidable vault, McConnell said.

The video also captures a flash of a vehicle believed to have been used by the burglars, he said.

Store owner Alan Fisher said he’s still tallying up the value of the lost merchandise, which was insured.

Fisher said his business was burglarized once before, when it was located at 10 Broad Street. The shop relocated in 2009.

McConnell said the incident was the first smash-and-grab in town in about eight or 10 years.
