ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS AT RFH

rfhiwama-9701131RFH junior Marcus Iwama celebrates his win in the 132-pound weight class at the Regional Wrestling Championship in Toms River on March 1.

Press release from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School

On a day that is sure to go down in Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School history, four student-athletes earned outstanding achievements in basketball, indoor track and field, and wrestling.

On Saturday March 1, RFH senior basketball player Jack Herrmann became the 18th student in the school’s history to join the 1,000-point club. Herrmann achieved his 1,000th point during a match-up against American History High School in Newark. Herrmann is the first basketball player in 16 years from the RFH boys team to achieve this honor.

On the same day, senior Jacqueline Gottuso took seventh place in the 3200 event at the NJSIAA/Track and Field Meet of Champions at the Bennett Center in Toms River with a time of 4:59.

Nearby, at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River, junior Marcus Iwama won the Regional Wrestling Championship for his weight class of 132 pounds. The win qualifies him to compete in the upcoming State Championship event in Atlantic City, to be held on the weekend of March 8 through 9. Iwama is the first RFH wrestler in ten years to become a Regional Champion, a feat last accomplished ten years ago by RFH Wrestling Head Coach Bryan Heller and his 2003 teammate Patrick Berger.

Also on March 1, senior Jason Bryan set a new personal best record with a shot put throw of 60 feet 2 inches, earning him second place at the NJSIAA Star-Ledger Track and Field Meet of Champions.

“We are very proud of the outstanding student-athletes who made March 1, 2014 a part of our school history,” said Chris Lanzalotto, RFH Vice Principal of Athletics and Student Activities. “We congratulate them and wish them continued success.”
