Can you identify the subject of this week’s Where Have I Seen This? Take a guess! Please send your answer to [email protected].
Only two readers identified last week’s Where, which showed a statue of Neptune. Nora Coolahan and Bill Bergin correctly identified the location: at the Ocean Avenue end of the median on Imbrie Place in Sea Bright.
It looks as though it’s been there forever, but it’s a recent addition. The above photos were take last July, left, before the statue went in, and last week.
According to a recent edition of the Sea Bright Sea Breeze newsletter published by the borough government:
When losses due to Hurricane Sandy forced the Osgoodby family of Island View Way to relocate to Florida, they wanted to leave behind a symbol of love for Sea Bright. You’ll find that symbol on the median in the center of Imbrie Place: a 1,200 pound statue of King Neptune.
The statue was the only remaining item on the Osgoodbys’ property that survived the storm. It had been part of the family home for years, and was re-stationed to Imbrie Place by volunteers including Joe Uras, Sr. of Uras Monument Company, and Jay Kennedy, who built the concrete foundation.
The town of Sea Bright gives special thanks to the generous donation by the Osgoodbys – a family that will always refer to Sea Bright as “home.”
Thanks to Nora, Bill and Les Hathaway for writing in.
