RCDS CONCERT BENEFITS SANDY GROUND

Press release from Rumson Country Day School

Two generations of Jersey Shore musicians will entertain — and a new playground will be dedicated in memory of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut — when The Rumson Country Day School hosts its second annual benefit concert event on Sunday, April 27.

The concert, a student initiative that will benefit Sandy Ground, will feature The Stone Bullets, Ardvark Smile and a special appearance by Bobby Bandiera, touring guitarist for Bon Jovi and ringmaster of the Jersey Shore Rock ‘N Soul Revue events at the Count Basie Theatre.

The benefit is the brainchild of RCDS eighth grader Max Kyrillos, who was inspired by the 12-12-12 relief concert in New York City. The first benefit concert on May 17, 2013 also featured Ardvark Smile and The Stone Bullets, as well as a special appearance by Shore music veteran Pat Guadagno. Following the student-directed fundraiser initiative, Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini accepted a check in the amount of $3,325 for NJ First Lady Mary Pat Christie’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.

Jane Denny, RCDS History and World Language teacher and community service director for the school, remarked about last year’s concert, “The special initiative is an excellent example of how service can use one’s passion as the springboard to creating a meaningful and successful project to benefit others. Max translated his love of music into a dynamic event that raised over $3,000!”
