RFH MAKES LIST OF TOP US SCHOOLS

Press release from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School

The Daily Beast has named Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School to its “Top High Schools 2014.” The highly popular news and opinion website researched over 26,000 public high schools across the U.S. to select 700 finalists for its “Top High Schools” honor. RFH is the number 80 school in the nation according to the ranking, which was released on August 27, 2014.

RFH is one of three high schools located in Monmouth County, and among 12 in New Jersey, to be ranked in the top 100. The four-year school, which is located in Rumson and serves students from Fair Haven and Rumson, received especially high marks from The Daily Beast for its reported 2012/13  graduation rate (99.6%), and the percentage of college-bound students (98.7%).

According to The Daily Beast website, “the over 700 schools that make up our final list deserve high praise for providing an academically rigorous program for most students, while best preparing them for college.”

The Daily Beast consulted 2012/2013 data from the Department of Education and contacted public schools with graduation rates of at least 85 percent — which is above the national reported average of 80% (for the 2011-12 school year) — to compile an initial list of candidates.

After 1,200 public schools chosen for the initial list completed a survey provided by The Daily Beast, they were compared using  a number of factors — graduation and college acceptance rates, levels of academic rigor (using Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Advanced International Certificate of Education classes and test scores), and students’ performance on college admissions exams.

The average Scholastic Aptitude Test  (SAT) score reported by RFH was 1778 out of a possible 2400 points, well above the national average of approximately 1,010 points. In addition, 34.3% of students at RFH participate in Advanced Placement (AP) classes.
