LINCROFT: RUGBY HEAVEN III

monmouthrugbyboys-500x333-9269474Red Bank’s Monmouth Football Rugby Club hosts the third annual Showdown at the Shore extravaganza this Saturday at Thompson Park.

mrfc-rugby-crest-1978115Rugby clubs from throughout the northeastern United States and beyond with descend upon Thompson Park in Lincroft Saturday to compete in the Monmouth 7s 2015: Showdown at the Shore III Rugby Tournament.

More than 400 ruggers from 45 sides will compete for championship hardware in seven brackets – including men, women, and high school boys and girls – in the daylong ruggerfest hosted by Red Bank’s own Monmouth Rugby Football Club.

From an announcement by club president Nick Lynch:
In the Men’s Elite bracket, defending Monmouth 7s champ Old Blue and NYAC, coming off a DI national championship, will compete alongside a national touring side from Bermuda and Charlotte RFC among other top Empire clubs.
Monmouth 7s also marks the kickoff leg of the Empire GU Summer 7s series.  The Men’s bracket features a who’s-who for Empire D2, with entries from Monmouth, NYRC, Village Lions, Union, and Princeton who are all fresh off spring playoff runs.
On the Women’s side, Monmouth, Village Lions, NYRC, and Brooklyn hope to take down returning champ Old Blue.
This year will also include social brackets for the Men and Women with entries from alumni, college, and second sides.  A full High School Boys’ bracket will feature Play Rugby, NYRC, Winged Foot, and Ridge along side two entries from the Monmouth Maulers and Play Rugby will comprise the High School Girl’s entries.
Monmouth 7s 2015 kicks off at 9am with pool play and the finals will be held later in the afternoon. Concessions and t-shirts will be available, along with rugby equipment and apparel from Ruggers Rugby Supply.
