Rumson-Fair Haven hosted a five-game showcase Sunday, and the Lady Bulldogs, led by Stephanie Lesko’s 18 points, notched an impressive 60-43 win against Saddle River Day for their seventh straight. Shore Sports Zone caught the action.
Red Bank Regional’s Ben Sprauer sank two free throws with 10 seconds to go to help RBR score a 48-45 win at Colts Neck Thursday. RBR sophomore Devin Cooper led all scorers with 20, and Sadiq Palmer fouled out just one point shy of 1,000, which he’ll go for next Tuesday against Red Bank Catholic. Rumson-Fair Haven’s Brendan Barry delivered 29 points to grab MVP honors for the second straight year as the Bulldogs handed Gill-St. Bernard its first loss of the season, 66-49, in the Hoop Group Boardwalk Showcase in Long Branch Saturday. Collin McDevitt nailed three straight three pointers in the third quarter to spark a double digit lead. RFH is now 5-1 since Barry has returned from wrist surgery in early December.
Neptune’s Desiree Allen scored 30 points and hauled down 13 rebounds as the Scarlet Fliers scored a quality road win against Red Bank Catholic Thursday. The Caseys rallied from 11 down with a 13-0 run that gave them a 34-32 lead, but Allen took over in the fourth with 13 points. Maureen Coakley had 16 for the Caseys. At the Albert E. Martin Classic final Wednesday night, Ranny School freshman Bryan Antoine scored 27 points as the Panthers topped Red Bank Regional, 67-51, in front of a capacity crowd in Little Silver. Antoine scored 88 points in the three games and was named tournament MVP. Shore Sports Zone has the video highlights.

With head coach Tom Brennan out indefinitely with medical issues, Middletown South’s girls basketball squad came from behind to beat Red Bank Catholic, 46-43, to reach the WOBM Christmas finals Tuesday. Sadiq Palmer scored 22 and sophomore Matt Reardon put up 14 as host and defending champs Red Bank Regional topped Central Regional, 58-35, at the Albert E. Martin Classic in Little Silver Monday.

Sophomore Devin Cooper poured in 18 to lead all scorers as defending Albert E. Martin Classic champs Red Bank Regional busted open a 24-15 halftime advantage in Little Silver Sunday. High school basketball returned to the Greater Red Bank Green Friday night with Red Bank Regional grabbing a win in its season-opener on the road in Wall Township.
Meanwhile, over in Rumson, the Rumson-Fair Haven Lady Bulldogs dropped one to Manasquan, and their male counterparts lost to the Manasaquan boys on the road as R-FH scoring star Brendan Barry sat out the game with an injury.
Members of the girls’ and boys’ seventh-and-eighth-grade teams were honored with trophies and applause at the Red Bank council meeting Wednesday night for their respective 2015 championships in the Two River Hoops Basketball League.
The girls in particular were called out by their coach, Mike Ballard, for their progress in recent years. “They started out as a fifth-and-sixth-grade team that could not win a game,” he said of the squad, known as the Bisons. “But they persevered.” Both the girls and the boys, known as the Bruins, went undefeated this season. With a 37-29 win over Neptune at Brookdale Community College Wednesday night, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional advanced to Shore Conference Tournament championship game against top-seeded Christian Brothers Academy Friday night at Monmouth U. Avenging a last-second loss to Red Bank Regional three weeks ago, the Bulldogs of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional won the second Battle of Ridge Road Thursday night, topping the Bucaneers 50-42 in Little Silver.
