Rumson-Fair Haven girls basketball coach George Sourlis became the Shore Conference’s all-time winningest coach Tuesday in a game that also saw Villanova-bound senior Grace Stant score her 1,000th career point. The 66-23 road win over Raritan was victory number 626 for Sourlis, who’s coached the Lady Bulldogs for 29 years, and moved his total past that of legendary CBA boys basketball coach Ed Wicelinski. Both milestones were celebrated on the hardwood, and Shore Sports Zone was there to capture it all.

Sophomore JosIe Larkins had 18 points to lead the Red Bank Catholic Caseys to a victory at home against previously unbeaten Neptune Tuesday. The Scarlet Fliers had a 24-20 halftime lead paced by Desiree Allen and Marajiah Bacon, but Larkins and senior Alex Barazotti sparked RBC to a quality win. Kerry Kirkwood had 15 points for Neptune, including the game-winning bucket. Sadiq Palmer led the Bucs with 21 points, but missed a coast-to-coast layup at the buzzer. Red Bank Regional guard Anthony Mitchell captured the second Shore Sports Zone Game Ball after a stellar week for the Bucs. Mitchell averaged 19 points per game in a pair of wins and pulled in a staggering 17,175 votes in just over 48 hours to edge out Southern Regional’s Jack Logue for the honor.
Rumson-Fair Haven guard Brendan Barry became the first recipient of a Shore Sports Zone Game Ball in high school hoops Wednesday, two days after he set a Boardwalk Showcase record with 34 points against Point Pleasant Beach at Long Branch High School. Kevin Fazio had 17 points and four other Red Bank Catholic starters were in the double digits as the Caseys topped crosstown rival Red Bank Regional 71-66 at RBC Saturday afternoon. The Bucs got 18 points from Sadiq Palmer but suffered their first loss of the season as the Caseys bounced back from a loss in the finals of the WOBM Christmas Classic to Toms River North with a divisional victory. Red Bank Regional, hosting a tournament in memory of Albert Martin, the student-athlete who died in 2012, pulled off a stunning tourney closer when it beat the defending state Tournament of Champions title holder St. Joe’s of Metuchen Tuesday night.
