SEA BRIGHT: AWESOME SIGN OF JOY

CLIPPINGS_220Even as artist Jim Kovic put his John Hancock on the brilliant new mural he created in Sea Bright over the past month, passersby couldn’t wait to have their photos taken in front of it.

“‘Awesome’ is the word most people use when they view my mural,” Kovic told Clippings. “Some people say ‘joy.’ This mural brings them joy, you know, after Sandy.”

The mural is at the corner of Ocean and Peninsula avenues. Check out all the Clippings from the Green here. (Video by Gerda Liebmann. Click to pause.)

gooch 062714 1The Two River Times, a Red Bank-based broadsheet newspaper with a taste for photos of the moneyed set at society balls, has a new owner.

Domenic DiPiero, president of a borough-based retirement-plan consultancy, has acquired the 24-year-old weekly, the TRT reported in a brief article in the latest edition.

The seller was Mickey Gooch, who with his now ex-wife, Diane, acquired the paper from garrulous television personality Geraldo Rivera a decade ago.

rb drone 070814 2By now, perhaps, you’ve seen the spectacular video shot from within the East River Fourth of July fireworks by a small, remote-controlled helicopter. Or the lovely one of the boardwalk in Ocean Grove and Asbury Park, as seen from a gentle distance above.

Less likely, you’ve seen aerial footage of roof inspections. But Red Bank’s Hobbymasters store is having trouble keeping up with demand for drones from real estate agents and roofers, as well as artists and his customary clientele of hobbyists, he tells redbankgreen.

“They’re outselling remote-controlled planes and cars combined,” he said.

CLIPPINGS: ARTIST IN THE ROUND

CLIPPINGS_220Artist Ellen Martin in her Red Bank studio on June 11, 2014.

Because she was born on Manhattan’s Museum Mile, “it was perhaps inevitable I become an artist,” says Martin. But it wasn’t until 2008, after years as a marketing director, an artists’ representative and an art consultant that she began painting. Her work may be seen here. (Video by Gerda Liebmann. Do you agree? And how many locations in Red Bank and elsewhere on the greater Red Bank Green can you identify in the video? The band’s members are Andy Tongren, Dylan Scott, Julian Dimagiba and Steve Patrick.
