RED BANK: FAB FAUX SPINS ‘REVOLVER’

In a season that’s justifiably obsessed with the golden anniversary of a little phonograph record by the name of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, it might be easy to overlook the album that truly made the Pepper platter possible: Revolver, the 1966 Beatles release that kicked off the Fab Four’s focus on studio projects in earnest — and an idea-packed long-player that more than a few observers consider to be the greatest rock album of all time.

For the 16th edition of what’s become a dependable signifier of summer in Red Bank, the super-sessionman Beatle-reboot known as the Fab Faux takes the stage of Red Bank’s Count Basie Theatre Saturday night for a performance of Revolver in its entirety, plus a mixed set of classic hits.

RED BANK: ROLL UP ON A MYSTERY TOUR

His three-decade gig as bandleader Paul Shaffer’s bass-playing lieutenant on David Letterman’s late-night talkfests may have come to a bittersweet end, but there’s no Faux finish in sight for Will Lee, the in-demand session man whose passionate pet project The Fab Faux has become a favorite annual attraction here on the Beatle-crazy banks of the Navesink.

The bassist teamed with another walking musical encyclopedia and fellow talk-show stalwart, through his years with Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Vivino as founding Faux-fathers for a band that transcends the wigs-and-costumes Beatlemania approach in favor of a thrillingly detail-intensive homage to the Beatles recorded legacy. Together with fellow NYC session aces Frank Agnello, Rich Pagano and Jack Petruzzelli, the fab fivesome has been a headliner-quality act in theater-scale venues like the Count Basie Theatre — and this Saturday, June 13, the band returns to Red Bank for a fourteenth consecutive late-spring concert, this one saluting a pair of pivotal albums from the Liverpuddlians’ catalog.

From the Knickerbockers to the Smithereens and a thousand tribute bands in between, there’s always been something in the water here in Jersey when it comes to The Beatles; a proprietary feeling that dates back to the first time they touched tarmac on the other side of the Hudson — and today’s edition of Red Bank oRBit has one more sip of that Beatlejuice, courtesy of a fairly Fab collection of veteran Shore musicians.

This weekend sees the second annual Fab Forward Ball fundraiser for the Red Bank Charter School — an event coordinated by long-playing local rocker and RBCS father Jeff MacPherson. It’s a gig that puts an innovative twist (and maybe even a shout) on the old Liverpudlian family recipe. We’ve got the details on the concert.

Then tune into our orbit the rest of this week, for a roundup of things theatrical on local stages, our weekend whirligig of ‘pinionated picks, and even more glittering gleanings from The Orb listings database — only in Red Bank oRBit!
