Red Bank officials plan to close portions of Drs. James Parker Boulevard between Shrewsbury and Maple avenues for paving Friday and Monday, the borough said in an alert Thursday afternoon. Detours will be in place.
The road will be open over the weekend, according to the alert – except for a portion outside the Celestial Lodge that will be closed from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday for the annual Community Block Party. Borough Administrator Stanley Sickels said paving of the portion between Shrewsbury and Bridge avenues will be completed Friday, in time for the event.
Milling and paving of the badly pitted roadway was delayed for months by a dispute with Conrail over repairs a grade crossing, borough officials have said. Conrail has decided not to rebuild the crossing at this time, Sickels said. (Photo by John T. Ward. Click to enlarge)
[Update: This post has been updated to reflect a change in the dates of the closure.] Monmouth County plans closings of Branch Avenue between Hudson Avenue in Red Bank and White Road in Little Silver for two nights beginning Tuesday, local officials said.
The closures, to allow for milling and paving of the road, are to be in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. Parking on Branch will be prohibited during the closings. (Photo by John T. Ward. Click to enlarge)

Business owners in Hurricane Sandy-walloped Sea Bright were reeling Friday afternoon on word that Monmouth County plans to shut down the Rumson-Sea Bright (Route 520) bridge for up to a month starting as early as January 28.
“It’s cutting off our lifeline as we’re recovering from a massive heart attack,” said Woody’s Ocean Grille owner Chris Wood, who just took delivery of $50,000 worth of liquor and food in preparation for a planned reopening in the desolate downtown next Wednesday.
“We’re just trying to get ourselves back open,” said Frank Bain, owner of the recently reopened Bain’s Hardware, “and a very large portion of our customer base comes over that bridge.”
The road will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Rumson Road to Little Silver Point Road, though vehicles will be permitted to travel south along that stretch until 8:15 a.m., according to borough police. (Click to enlarge)
