RUMSON: BIG HONOR FOR RFH’S DELLETT

Special Education teacher Jen Dellett has been selected as Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Educator of the Year. The announcement was made on May 12 by RFH Principal Dr. Tracy Handerhan, joined by French Teacher Christine Berg, last year’s recipient of the annual honor.

Dellett has been teaching at RFH for ten years, where she started as an Inclusion teacher and then taught Resource English prior to her current assignment in the Multiply Disabled Program.

RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN WELCOMES THERAPY DOG

Violet with VictoriaIt’s late in the school year, but the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School community welcomed its newest member to class this week: a therapy dog named Violet.

A two-month-old golden retriever/poodle mix, Violet will serve primarily as a companion for students in the Multiply Disabled program, which features a self-contained classroom for students who require special education and related services, according to a school announcement.

RFH STUDENTS GET REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE

Between October 31 and November 11, two groups of students and chaperones from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School took a closer look at the culture and languages of two far-off lands — by traveling to China and Peru, as part of World Language Immersion trips organized by RFH faculty member Michel Salazar.

Making the trip to Peru were 30 students and six chaperones – including Salazar, RFH Principal Dr. Tracy Handerhan, and World Language Teachers Christina Gauss, Daniella Goodarz, Seth Herman, and Yannell Maglione. The student contingent included sophomores Juliana Balaban-Kroll, Sebastian Buckley, Julia Handerhan, Brian Incremona Jr., Leo Maita, and Emma Singleton; juniors Abigail Drummond, Olivia Flippo, Julia Gagliano, Giavana Hanna, Mariah Parsons, Emily Ross, Jane Russo, Natalie Santos, Brittany Schmell, Paige Venancio, Isabella Vernon, Megan Volker, and Emily Weis; and seniors Emily Boak, Tess Chandler, Heather Culver, Kelly Danaher, Jordanna Drazin, Maren Gierlatowicz, Meghan O’Connor, Jenna Sandoli, Katherine Sustick, and Christina Tardiff.

RFH students traveling to China included sophomores Jessica Browne, Jenna Hawke, Nicholas Longo, Henry Manelski, Peter Maris, Camryn Pecyno, Lily Perrine, John Presti, Emma Singleton, and Christopher Steinhacker; juniors Katherine Amendola, Amanda Keighron, Julia Klem, Emily Oberlander, Avery Wall, and John Woods III; and seniors Sharon Brownstein, Colin Courchesne, Kevin Gallagher, Willis Manelski, Gabrielle Ramirez, and Isabelle Slavin. The 22 students were accompanied by four chaperones – RFH English Teacher Kathryn Borsuk, Superintendent Dr. Peter Righi, and World Language Teachers Rebecca Wang and Matthew Yang.

AWARDS CELEBRATE ACHIEVEMENTS OF RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN CLASS OF 2015

The Annual Awards Program for graduating seniors was presented at  on the evening of June 8. Over 80 awards were presented to members of the RFH Class of 2015, including Valedictorian Recognition, Departmental Achievement Awards, Student Life Awards, and Honorary Awards and Scholarships.

RFH Principal Dr. Tracy Handerhan presented the Valedictorian Achievement Award to Alexandra Siwulec. The Valedictorian for the Class of 2015 also received the American Association of University Women 2015 Book Award, Catalyst STEM Award, Holy Cross Church Scholarship Award, U.S. Marine Corps Scholastic Excellence Award, and Superintendent’s Award.

A leader of several extracurricular clubs and activities, and a talented pianist who participated in the Golden Key Music Festivals in Vienna and New York City, Alexandra plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where she will major in biophysics and minor in Latin as part of the College of Arts and Sciences and Vagelos Molecular Life Sciences Program.
