Delayed a week by weather, volunteer firefighters put on Red Bank’s annual Fire Prevention Fair in the White Street Parking lot Sunday to educate the community about the importance of fire safety. READY FOR ITS ANNUAL CLOSE-UP

A 1940 GMC/Sealand firetruck, formerly owned by the Fair Haven volunteer fire department and immaculately refurbished by Dale Bennett of Burdge’s Garage in Little Silver, returns to the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair tonight, when the host firehouse welcomes firefighters from all over.

RUMSON MAN NABBED FOR BURGLARY

Police arrested a 20-year-old Rumson man outside his mother’s mansion Monday afternoon and charged him with burglarizing a Fair Haven home less than an hour earlier.

redbankgreen was on the scene at Evergreen Drive when authorities took David Wilt into custody on Evergreen Drive at about 4 p.m., shortly after authorities in both towns went on alert for a black pickup truck on a report of a break-in.

WELL, SHUCKS, IT’S NOT FAIR – YET

dsc_0005dsc_0078There’s still a month to go before the Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair kicks off its annual eight-day swirl of food and rides, but preparation of more than 150 gallons of homemade clam chowder for the event got underway at the firehouse Monday night.

Shucking and chopping completed, a crew of volunteers gets down to cooking the chowder Tuesday night, after which it will be frozen until the fair, which starts August 26.
