A 1940 GMC/Sealand firetruck, formerly owned by the Fair Haven volunteer fire department and immaculately refurbished by Dale Bennett of Burdge’s Garage in Little Silver, returns to the Fair Haven FiremenÂ’s Fair tonight, when the host firehouse welcomes firefighters from all over.
Bennett, an Eatontown resident who’s active in fundraising for the New Jersey Fire Museum, has brought the truck to the event annually since its a “frame-up” restoration was completed in 2008, and breaks it out at the company’s request for special occasions. Last week, he used the truck to carry the flowers in his own mother’s funeral. “It was one of her favorites” in his collection, he said. “She used to love riding on it with her great-grandchildren.” (Click to enlarge)
