Rcsm2_010508Tucked away in the row of small shops next door to the Dublin House Pub in Red Bank is one of two new boutiques featured in this edition of Retail Churn: a specialty paint store called Paint Passion.

The other, located just across Monmouth Street from the pub, combines two businesses in one: vintage clothing and hot yoga.

SWEATING AND STRETCHING ON A CRAWL

The Green’s first recorded “fitness crawl” was deemed a sweaty success Sunday as local residentss eager to try new forms of exercise packed five stops throughout a moveable workout cycle.

“How awesome is this?” asked Jen Portman, who has run Synergy Hot Yoga in Fair Haven for the past five years. “There’s a hotbed of different things around here that aren’t well-known. It’s the perfect way to discover what works for you,” she said.

Some newcomers were shocked to discover the sweltering temperature in her studio, but luckily no one fainted.

HOT YOGA ON NOT-QUITE-AS-HOT DAY

For Fair Haven yoga teacher and Synergy founder Jen Portman, not even the worst of summer heat is hot enough. In her “Hot 26” Bikram Yoga classes, she sets the thermostat at 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

“It actually helps you deal with the heat,” said Portman. “Your body becomes accustomed. It helps your body deal with adversity, really. Hot yoga is a really good thing to do in summer.”
