A more permanent one is in the works, borough officials said.
Motorists in Rumson should avoid the intersection of Ridge Road and Bingham Avenue Monday. The intersection will be “completely closed” between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. as New Jersey Natural Gas begins work replacing a gas main between Bingham and Ward avenues, borough police said in an alert Sunday. Responding to a gas leak reported shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Rector Place and West Front Street in Red Bank, a crew from New Jersey Natural Gas Company stopped the leak at 5:44 p.m. Details about the incident were not immediately available. The Red Bank Fire Department also responded.
The intersection is one of two now closed to traffic for reconstruction in conjunction with utility work on the new Hubbard’s Bridge that has detours in place for two-to-three weeks, causing significant traffic delays. (Photos by John T. Ward. Click to enlarge)

Red Bank officials are backing a Monmouth County push for safety upgrades to the intersection of Broad Street and East Bergen Place, where a Staten Island woman was run over by an SUV four years ago.
In a July 2 letter to the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, Mayor Pasquale Menna gets behind a request by Monmouth County for funding to improve the intersection, where Menna said there have been at least 34 accidents since 2010.
The intersection of Shrewsbury Avenue and Drs. James Parker Boulevard is slated for $225,000 in pedestrian safety improvements.
One of Red Bank’s busiest intersections has been singled out for a slew of improvements aimed at making it a safer crossing for pedestrians.
