RED BANK: TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE AVERTED

RED BANK: RR XING TO CLOSE FOR WEEKEND

AREA TOWNS BRACE FOR TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE

HOT-TOPIC_01Red Bank and neighboring towns could be in for a day or more of truly bad traffic next Monday – and rail commuters may be in for headaches as well.

New Jersey Transit plans to close the heavily traveled railroad crossing at Broad Street/Route 35 to vehicular traffic starting Friday night for an estimated three-plus days of round-the-clock inspections and repairs on its North Jersey Coast Line track, a spokeswoman said.

In addition, rail traffic in both directions will be funneled onto a single track pair near the location, rather than the usual two, a move that is expected to cause mass transit delays, said spokeswoman Nancy Snyder.

RED BANK: RR XING TO CLOSE TWO NIGHTS

The closings are scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday and again from 8 p.m Saturday through 8 a.m. Sunday, said spokeswoman Nancy Snyder. Motorists should plan alternate routes. LITTLE SILVER: RAIL FATALITY REPORTED

At approximately 5:00 pm, a New York-bound North Jersey Coast Line train struck and fatally injured an adult, male trespasser west of the Little Silver Station.  No injuries were reported on board Train 3266 at the time of the incident.

Monmouth County officials say they have solved the daunting sidewalk-to-nowhere conundrum they faced in designing a new bridge to connect Red Bank and Middletown at West Front Street.

The fix? Create a walk-and-bike path that will bypass the narrow rail trestle on the Red Bank side, Monmouth County Engineer Joe Ettore said Wednesday.

In what was billed as a preview of a fuller public presentation to come in the spring, Monmouth County Engineer Joe Ettore told Red Bank’s mayor and council that the revised plan for the new Hubbards Bridge also calls for a construction timetable that will detour traffic around the span for just three or four months of the projected 18-to-24-month buildout.

And when it’s all done, the borough will end up with a new parcel of green space overlooking the upper Navesink River, he said.
