Middletown Twp. Police report they are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred at State Highway 36 Southbound and Wilson Avenue at 8:06 PM., causing a portion of the highway to be closed for about two hours.
Police report a 31 year old female from the Port Monmouth section of Middletown was struck and killed while crossing the intersection with another pedestrian. Police report the vehicle that struck her was operated by a 24 year old male from Long Branch.

Two prominent pieces of public infrastructure one, some 140 years old, the other brand-new have officially been renamed for Red Bank-area leaders.
Governor Chris Christie has signed bills naming the century-old Red Bank rail station for the late borough mayor and state Supreme Court Justice Daniel OHern and dubbing a new bridge across the Shrewsbury River for the late Joe Azzolina, the longtime state Assemblyman from Middletown.
State Senator Jennifer Beck, who pushed for both, announced the changes Monday.
The recurring and alarming theme for Middletown’s police officers this week was dealing with alleged drunks crashing into things.
There were five reported car accidents in which the drivers were arrested for driving while intoxicated, said Detective Lieutenant Steve Dollinger in his regular roundup of crime activity. One driver fell asleep at the wheel and hit a parked car, two crashed into utility poles, another man went through a road barrier and another ended up on the side of the road after crashing his vehicle, Dollinger said.
That’s not counting the two incidents of wrong-way drivers.
