A Rumson woman and her son narrowly escaped catastrophe Thursday when the car she was driving became trapped on the North Jersey Coast Line tracks in Little Silver, according to a report in the Asbury Park Press.
Both got safely away from the vehicle before it was hit by a train at the White Street grade crossing, the paper reported on its website.
The incident occurred shortly after noon, when the woman stopped her Ford Expedition in the crossing in traffic. The vehicle became trapped between the safety gates as a train approached, according to the report.
The pair, who were not identified by police, were able to leave the car before the crash and were unhurt, the Press reported. No train riders were hurt, either.
The SUV was destroyed, and clearing the scene delayed the train for at least an hour, according to the report.
