SUSPECT NABBED IN STABBING
A River Street man is in custody after a fight Friday afternoon in which he stabbed an acquaintance, Red Bank police are reporting this morning.
The 21-year-old victim, who was cut across the chest and one arm with what police believe was a knife, was treated and quickly released from Riverview Medical Center that day, says Capt. Steve McCarthy.
Armando Cruz, 20, was arrested Friday afternoon at the Red Bank Municipal Court offices. McCarthy says he’s not at liberty to say why Cruz was in the same building as the police station, except to note that Cruz wasn’t there to surrender himself.
McCarthy reports that at 1:35p Friday, police were summoned to a Locust Avenue address on a report of a stabbing. The victim, a Matawan resident, was visiting relatives.
The suspect, who had an unresolved beef with the victim, showed up at the house. A fight ensued, the victim was stabbed, and the suspect fled on foot, McCarthy says.
Two hours later, Cruz was arrested in the Municipal Building by Sgt. Joseph Milko. The weapon was not recovered.
Cruz was charged with aggravated assault and other counts and transferred to the Monmouth County jail. Municipal Court Judge William Himelman set bail at $20,000.
