The home of Red Bank’s government is about to get a going-over by a team of energy experts looking for drafts and lights left burning when no one’s around.
Under a $7,947 contract with Steven Winter Associates of East Brunswick, the audit also calls for an evaluation of the Senior Citizens Center on Shrewsbury Avenue.
Borough officials originally contemplated including the library and public works facility on Chestnut Street in the effort. “But we only had so much money,” borough engineer Christine Ballard tells redbankgreen.
The work is being done under the terms of the state Local Government Energy Audit Program, which will reimburse 75 percent of the audit cost to the town, Ballard says. The balance of the cost may be recovered if and when the audit recommendations are implemented, she says.
The audit which Ballard says is expected to be completed by the end of the year, would also put the borough in line for additional grant funds aimed at reducing energy usage.
