A high-squeal-factor hoops tourney, a toy drive and a fundraiser for cancer services mark this edition of Done Good, redbankgreen‘s woefully infrequent rundown of good deeds.
Red Kettle Classic
A two-day basketball tourney that packs the gym at the Salvation Army on Newman Springs Road, this year’s fifth annual edition should be no different.
Featuring the boys’ and girls’ teams of area middle schools, the games kick off at 5:30p Friday, December 4 with a doubleheader featuring the Red Bank Middle and Red Bank Charter school teams.
Games resume at 9a Saturday, when teams from Shrewsbury School, Knollwood Middle School of Fair Haven, St. James of Red Bank and Holy Cross of Rumson get into the mix. The girls’ final is at 2p and the boys’ at 3:30.
Admission is $1 for students and $3 for adults. The event is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army.
PBA Toy Drive
Red Bank PBA local #39 is conducting a toy drive for children in need this holiday season. Show your generosity by dropping off an unwrapped gift to the lobby of the Red Bank Police Department located at 90 Monmouth Street no later than Friday December 18.
PBA plays Santa
In addition to the toy drive, the PBA local is trying something new. Members will be escorting Santa Claus as he delivers gifts to children who reside in Red Bank.
Any borough parent interested in having a child visited will need to purchase, wrap, and label the gift (child’s name and address, with a contact phone number), and drop the gift off at the police department by Tuesday, December 15.
Deliveries are scheduled for Sunday, December 20 between 12pm-6pm. Space is limited and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Any questions, contact Sgt. Mike Frazee or Ptl. John Camarca at 732.530.2700..
Mingling to fight cancer
A number of Red Bank businesses have gotten together and agreed to donate a portion of their sales on the night of Thursday, December 10, to the American Cancer Society.
Dubbed “Mix, Mingle and Make a Difference,” the event features displays in participating businesses of cancer survivors’ stories, as well as research news and advocacy efforts.
The event runs from 5p to 9p. Among the businesses involved are Sweetest Sin Boutique, White Butterfly, Joel McFadden Designs, Red Bank Chocolate Shoppe, Filakia, Hair & Company, KC Closets, Backward Glances, Bella Mystique, Red Ginger Home, Soapmarket, Carla Gizzi & Unlimited Communications. Just look for the red, white and blue balloons that will be hanging outside the doors of participating businesses.
