A Middletown man who was roughed-up by a former Red Bank policeman following the KaBoom Fireworks show in 2006 has pocketed a $290,000 settlement check from the town’s insurance carrier.
That’s according to a report on the New Jersey Civil Settlements blog run by an arm of the Libertarian Party.
Following a Monmouth County indictment for aggravated assault and other crimes in 2007, Patrolman Steven Adams quit the force and pleaded guilty to assaulting 22-year-old Jonathan Wilson in the parking lot at Red Bank Police Headquarters. Wilson had been arrested for disorderly conduct.
Adams sentenced to 18 months probation.
Wilson, meantime, had filed a federal lawsuit against Adams, the borough and police Chief Mark Fitzgerald.
John Paff, chairman of the Libertarian Party’s Open Government Advocacy Project, writes on the blog that “The settlement agreement contains a provision requiring Wilson to keep the amount and terms of the settlement confidential. Fortunately, however, such ‘confidentiality clauses’ do not trump the public’s right to know under the Open Public Records Act.”
Paff’s report contains a PDF of the the lawsuit and settlement. Here it is: redbankwilson
