Little Silver police have issued a statement describing the circumstances under which a crossing guard was struck by a vehicle this morning.

A vehicle operated by Woody Saleh, 54 of Little Silver was traveling west on Markham Place. The vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Markham Place and Branch Avenue and proceeded to turn right onto Branch Avenue when it struck the school crossing guard, William Gibson, 65 of Eatontown.
Gibson was wearing a safety vest and holding up a stop sign when he was struck in the cross walk on Branch Avenue. Gibson was transported to Monmouth Medical Center for his injuries.
Gibson was released from the hospital and is recovering from several injuries, he tells redbankgreen.
Saleh was issued summonses for careless driving and failing to comply with crossing guard signal, according to police Sergeant Dan Shaffery.
