WEEKLONG DETOUR KICKS IN WEDNESDAY

If the neon orange sign hasn’t done it for you already, consider yourself warned. More traffic delays are imminent in Red Bank and getting crosstown will require a new route for many motorists.

NJ Transit will be conducting rail work on the tracks at the crossing on West Bergen Place “on or about” November 11, and a 24/7 reroute will be necessary for about a week, Captain Darren McConnell of the borough police department tells redbankgreen.

The work is expected to take place between November 11 and 19, he said. Unlike many road-related projects, this one will completely shut down the West Bergen vein for the duration of the project so trains can keep running, he said.

Better start planning your detour now. Here’s what you’ll find, according to an announcement yesterday via the borough’s C3 Alert system its website,

To accommodate this work, West Bergen Place will be closed to motor vehicles between Maple and Shrewsbury avenues during this time. (Local traffic only; no motor vehicles may cross tracks.) All motorists will be detoured around the crossing as follows:

Westbound: Motorists will turn left on Maple Avenue, right on Newman Springs  Road, right on Shrewsbury Avenue, and then left on West Bergen Place.

Eastbound: Motorists will turn right on Shrewsbury Avenue, left on Newman  Springs Road, left on Route 35 (Broad Street), continue on Maple Avenue, and then right on East Bergen Place.

The objective, McConnell said, is “to try and keep the traffic off residential streets and keep it on county roads.” Newman Springs Road is Monmouth County Route 520. But Monmouth Street and West Front Street are likely to be affected also.

If you haven’t already, you can sign up for the C3 alert system here.
