RBR KIDS TO SHOWCASE WITH THE SHIRLS

sundayshowcaseThe Performing Art Students at Red Bank Regional High School join special guests Tim McLoone and the Shirleys this Sunday for an afternoon of singing, dancing and laughs.

When Red Bank Regional High School presents its Sunday Showcase concert on February 27, the spotlighted performers will include Sarah Trufolo of Little Silver, who along with her fellow dancers will be “performing in the audience, rallying the crowd to boogie with them.”

They’ll include senior Reid Henderson of Avon (who will deliver a comic monologue), and junior Ari Bellar of Little Silver (who will join the RBR choral students for a medley of songs by Journey). And they’ll include another favorite son of Little Silver — one Tim McLoone.

Did someone say Tim McLoone? The sixtysomething rennaissance guy, running entrepeneur, restaurateur and on-time conductor of the Holiday Express? Surely they can’t be serious.

Well, they are serious — and yes, you may call him Shirley.

The Monmouth County music legend and his big, year-round band The Shirleys will be the special guest performers Sunday, when the RBR Education Foundation produces its all-singing, all-dancing benefit for the school and its highly regarded performing arts programs.

Apart from the aforementioned acts, the 3p showcase will offer up a sampling of the school’s top vocal, instrumental, piano, and dance talents — with creative writing and drama students also getting into the act via a set of original spoken pieces. The Jazz Ensemble will highlight an adaptation of Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and the string majors will perform an arrangement of the Jackson Five/ Mariah Carey hit “I’ll Be There.”

Even if you’re not a proud parent (or a crucial component of a friendly cheering section), you’re invited to catch the latest constellation of rising stars at the school whose most recent graduating class produced major label recording artist Cara Salimando. General admission tickets are $20 for adults ($10 for students, staff and senior citizens), with reserved Gold Circle seating available for $25. Purchase tix at the door, or in advance right here.

Remember: Nothing makes a Red Bank friend happier than to hear "I saw you on Red Bank Green!"
