FAIR HAVEN DUCKS GET MORE AIR TIME
The Fair Haven duck flap has drawn more major media attention, this time from Fox’s My9 News.
Reporter (and borough resident) JoAnn Pileggi visited the South Woodland Drive neighborhood of 12-year-old Nicole Stover (aka Nikki Vuille), whose six pet ducks are in the spotlight because some neighbors complain they’re loud and a potential source of pollution to a nearby stream.
The borough council has taken up the issue of whether Nicole can keep the animals under the provisions of a non-domesticated-animal ordinance.
On Sunday, the controversy was the subject of both a Ledger Live video on the Star-Ledger website and an essay by Sledger columnist Mark Di Ionno.

Its funny how people complain about ducks when dogs, cars, kids, trains, and all this new teartown construction make more noise then anything else! People stop bitchin and get over it. Also, to the mayor and council, stop ruining Fair Haven, dredge McCarters Pond, leave McCarters Park alone and stop these streetscapes; the town looks like a city and that is one reason why living hear sucks now!

The ducks should stay to make my point clear!

Maybe the domestic ducks invited the 5 wild turkeys roaming around Fair Haven and Red Bank. We saw them crossing the road today and this is what popped into my head to the tune of 5 little pumpkins…
5 wild turkeys crossing Ridge Road,
The first one said “this is quite a load”
The second one said, “there are cars everywhere”
The third one said “we don’t care”
The fourth one said, “will they eat us for lunch”
and the fifth one said “Not if we travel in our bunch”
So they trotted along and they gobbled far and wide and hopefully continue to make it to the other side (of the road that is!).
I was driving so I couldn’t take a picture but they have been around for a little while now and others have seen them parading around the streets of our town. Keep your eyes out and be ready to put the brakes on because they seem to think they have the right of way…no matter what!

I too hope Nicole gets to keep her ducks. I live in downtown Red Bank and MAN is it noisy! But I love it and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else around here. That being said, I was at Riverside Gardens with a three year old I watch sometimes when a couple of ducks flew over us quacking. She screamed with delight and it made me smile. It was only for a moment so I can understand what happiness Nicole must get everyday from her delightful pets.

Anne,
That is a charming poem. I saw them making their way along the shoulder of Ridge Road the day before yesterday near the intersection of Ridge and Fair Haven Road. Delightful!

So here we go with people who have nothing to do with there time. Lets just start with a town next door called rumson who has people with horses I dont recall anyone complaining about them,or maybe a couple blocks away is the river where people go party drink and have a good time. How about the summer parties people have in there back yard.Or maybe the kids on there bikes with those terrible horns. People shouldn’t have to move or get rid of pets cause they don’t live in the country side,If you dont wanna hear animals then it seems the problem is the people cause im sure everyone makes a sound or noise the no one wants to hear so maybe they should move into the country side and see what life is about before you lay your concerns on a 12 year old about some ducks. See if I live in your neighborhood I would go buy chickens and let them just so I could people try and catch them…Everyone should be happy that a 12 year old has the mentality enough to take care of such animals when you have thousands of people who are cruel and neglect them think of that befor you judge someone look at yourself and think hmmm if I was a kid I would of liked ducks myself. Sorry people you have way to much time on your hands when this is the best thing you can think of to do.GOOD LUCK NICOLE IF YOU NEED ANY HELP AT TOWN MEETING I WILL BE GLAD TO HAVE MY SAY……..
