A Farmingdale man already facing charges for thefts from cars in Rumson and Tinton Falls is also responsible for 40 car break-ins in Fair Haven, police said.
“It is our guy,” Chief Darryl Breckenridge said.
Rodney Tyler, 19, was charged by Fair Haven police with theft and 40 counts of burglary on Friday, Detective Jesse Dykstra said.
Dykstra said Tyler entered unlocked vehicles on the night of March 27 and into the morning of March 28, and again the night of April 3 and into the morning of April 4.
The charges allege Tyler made off with about $3,300 in merchandise from the cars, including cash, gift cards, an iPod, a laptop computer, jewelry and credit cards.
Tyler is being held in Monmouth County Correctional Institute in Freehold in lieu of $40,000 bail, Dykstra said.
The same day Fair Haven brought charges against Tyler, he was charged for nearly 75 car break-ins in Rumson and Tinton Falls.
After a flurry of car break-ins in Fair Haven in March and April, Breckenridge says Tyler’s arrest should end the string of crime in town.
“It solves all of those problems,” Breckenridge said. “I don’t think he’ll be out anymore.”
