‘JITNEY’ ACTORS TO VISIT RED BANK LIBRARY
Actress Roslyn Ruff, below, with fans after Saturday’s opening-night performance of August Wilson’s ‘Jitney’ at the Two River Theater.
Two cast members of the play, which trains a lens on the urban African-American experience, are scheduled to appear at the Red Bank Public Library tonight from 6 to 7 to 9 p.m. to meet the community and salute Black History Month. (Above photo by T. Charles Erickson. Click to enlarge)

On Shrewsbury Ave, where Gus’s barber shop is now, used to be the Spot Taxi service, and Cafe.
Tom Hastey was the owner, and was at the time a very prominate African American buisnesman on the Westside.
The photo above depicts a scene that I imagine was one of many that probably happened all the time there.
Mr. Hasty ran White over Red sedan Taxis.
I purchaced his home from his estate on Leighton Ave in 2000. In the garage was the 1968 Ambasador that was the last running Spot Taxi White over Red like the one in the picture.
So much history on our Westside. Does this remind anyone of that ?
