Little Silver police arrested a man after he assaulted or was involved in a fight with another individual before getting into a hit-and-run accident, they said Thursday morning.
On the scene of the arrest, Chief Dan Shaffery told redbankgreen that police were still sorting out what happened, but that police had received reports of a fight near the Church Street exit of the A&P supermarket at around 10:45 a.m.
Shortly thereafter came a report of a hit-and-run accident near the post office, which is at that location.
Police stopped a suspect driving a gold Chevy PT Cruiser less than a mile away, at Riverside Drive and Rumson Road in Rumson, and took the driver into custody.
Shaffery did not identify the man, who had a visible cut beneath his left eye.
