Police Chief John Sorrentino tells redbankgreen that Candace Brunswick, 56, was apparently boogie-boarding alone on one of the town’s northern beaches when she was injured shortly after 7 p.m.
She managed to pull herself out of the surf, where an unidentified second person found her and called for help, Sorrentino said.
Brunswick was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, where an unconfirmed report indicated that she was able to feel sensation in her extremities, he said.
“She’s a very active individual, very athletic, and a very important part of our local first aid squad as well as our Office of Emergency Management,” said Mayor Dina Long. “Our thoughts and prayers are with her.”
