A world-renowned skateboarder was seriously injured in a fall on the steps in front of Red Bank Catholic High School Monday night, police said.
Brian Wenning, 32, of Monmouth Beach, was transported to the trauma center at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune with a severe laceration to the head, according to Captain Darren McConnell, police department spokesman.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on the steps of the Broad Street school, though additional details were not known. McConnell said he believed Wenning remained hospitalized Tuesday morning.
Skateboarding is prohibited throughout much of downtown Red Bank by ordinance.
Wenning is frequently cited as a skateboarding innovator, appearing widely in magazine and video coverage of the sport. He produces his own line of skateboards under the brand Lockdown Skateboards.
