Two men were charged in separate assaults on Red Bank police officers over the Memorial Day weekend, authorities reported Tuesday.
From an announcement by Captain Darren McConnell, police department spokesman:
On Saturday, May 26, Levi Soza, 23 years old, Highlands was arrested in the area of Monmouth Street for Disorderly Conduct. Soza subsequently assaulted Ptl. Thomas Doremus by head butting him,
causing a facial injury to the officer.
Soza was additionally charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Terroristic Threats after making verbal threats towards Doremus. He was transported to Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $36,500 bail.
On Tuesday, May 28, Peter Mullen, 23, of Lincroft, was arrested in the area of White Street by Ptl. Stanley Balmer who was investigating a disorderly persons incident. During the arrest, Mullen violently resisted efforts
by Balmer and Ptl. Ashon Lovick and Heather Pubylski to control him.
He was ultimately charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault on Police Officers, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct. He is being held in lieu of bail set at $55,500.
Balmer was treated and released from Riverview Medical Center for a minor laceration, McConnell said.
