A Rumson man was helicoptered to a trauma center after his car struck a tree on Navesink River Road in Middletown Monday evening.
Frank Caccavo, Jr., 54 remained hospitalized at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune with unspecified injuries after a 45-minute extrication from the wreck by emergency personnel.
Police did not immediately know the direction in which Caccavo was traveling on the steep and twisting road when his 2001 Dodge Viper left the road near Brown’s Dock Road and struck a tree at 5:31 p.m.
The crash is being investigated by Corporal Darrin Simon and Corporal Nick Caprio of the Middletown Police traffic bureau. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has any information concerning the accident is asked to call the bureau at 732-615-2045.
