Reverend Dwight Crist Northington, pastor at Red Bank’s Calvary Baptist Church, has died, according to a post on the church’s Facebook page dated Sunday.

Northington had retired earlier in the month after serving the Bridge Avenue church for 22 years.

The Congregation of Calvary Baptist Church sorrowfully announce the passing of our Pastor, Reverend Dr. D. Christ Northington. We rejoice in the assurance that he is at rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

According to his biography on the church website, Northington, 61, was a Vietnam-era Navy veteran and onetime insurance executive who found his calling in the ministry well into adulthood.

Northington survived a double lung transplant in 2007.
