RED BANK: ONE ARRESTED FOR HOME INVASION

authorities_rb2-2014-8879417One man is in custody and police are looking for one or two others following a home invasion robbery in Red Bank Thursday night.

Police Chief Darren McConnell tells redbankgreen that two- to three males burst into a home on St. Mary’s Place, off Shrewsbury Avenue, at around 11:25 p.m. brandishing a gun, a knife and a bottle, and looking for “unknown property.”

Four people were in the house at the time, three of them residents, he said. The invaders assaulted two male occupants, one 15 years old and the other 19, causing head injuries that sent them to the emergency room at Riverview Medical Center, where they were treated and released, McConnell said.

One was struck in the head with the bottle, he said.

During the incident, two occupants of the home were able to escape by jumping from a second floor window.

The arrest was made by Patrolman Michael Zadlock, who spotted someone matching a description of one assailant within 10 minutes of the initial report on West Bergen Place, McConnell said. The suspect, who was found to be carrying a knife believed to have been used to threaten the victims, was arrested without incident, he said.

The suspect, Vernon Reevey, 22, of Tinton Falls, is charged with attempted bobbery, burglary, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and multiple counts of aggravated assault.

Reavey was still in police custody as of 10 a.m. Friday and bail had not been set, McConnell said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sergeant Juan Sardo or Investigator Jorge Torres in the detective bureau at (732) 530-2719.
